What Kids Actually Want at Their Graduation Party

If your calendar isn’t already full of cap and gown events, this is your reminder that it’s graduation party season!

Every June, we see hundreds of graduates walk through our doors to celebrate with loved ones. For the families planning the celebration, it can be an overwhelming task to ensure that this major milestone is everything that their graduate deserves.

So, we’re here to help! We asked some of our graduating guests what they want most at their graduation party, and here’s what they told us.

Graduation Party Checklist

  1. Personalization to their unique interests. Whether your graduate has spent years on the stage in the theater, on the court playing basketball, or is over the moon about the college they’ve been accepted to, there are endless possibilities to ensure their party reflects their personalities, hobbies, or achievements. Incorporate elements at their party that showcase their individuality, such as custom decorations, photo collages, or themed tables dedicated to their passions.
  2. Great food and beverage options. Food is an integral part of any celebration, and high school graduates are no exception! Offering a variety of food options, including both familiar favorites and unique, trendy dishes, to satisfy guests with diverse tastes. And, don’t forget a few simple options for the picky eaters! Keep the drinks fun with non-alcoholic specialty beverages, mocktails, or a customizable drink station to ensure that everyone can enjoy an exciting beverage of their choice.
  3. Someone to capture the memories. For as much time that students spend on their cell phones taking selfies, don’t assume that they’ll be the ones to capture the memories of that day! They’ll be busy surrounding themselves in the celebration, so they’ll want someone else to capture the memories. Consider hiring a local photographer, or rent a photo booth to create a fun and interactive experience for guests of all ages. Bonus points if you provide props that honor the graduate’s hobbies!
  4. A congratulatory message from someone unexpected. While they appreciate the gestures of loved ones, an unexpected message from a role model or mentor can add a heartfelt sentiment to the celebration that they’ll never forget. Consider asking a former teacher or community leader that they look up to for words of wisdom, or find their favorite celebrity on an app like Cameo for a customized video that they’ll cherish for years to come.
