What is a Bettolino?
In Italy there are Ristorantes, Trattorias, Osterias, Pizzarias, and much more. These are all dining establishments, each different to some degree in nature. Before these dining establishments existed, there were Bettolino’s. Imagine it’s the early 1900’s and you are a traveler roaming from city to city in Italy. You come across a small village. In the village there are homes, trade shops and a Bettolino. You are hungry, so you walk in. It’s lively, people everywhere, the buzz of conversation and the smell of fresh cooked foods are present. The owner approaches you with a tall chalice of wine and a warm plate of food.
That same feeling is that of how we want you to feel when you walk in our doors. Today, they are non-existent in Italy, but the culture of serving great food and drink, accompanied with warm service exist in our small family run Bettolino in the Riviera Village.
In order to fully understand the Bettolino Story, we need to take you back to Gaetano’s story.
Vince Giuliano and Andreanna Giuliano Liguore grew up in a true South Bay food family. Their great grandparents Francis & Gaetano Giuliano opened locally loved Giuliano’s deli in the 1950’s. In the 90’s their parents then went on to open Gaetano’s Restaurant, where Vince and Andreanna spent most of their childhood. After college, both of them felt an urge to get back into the family biz, they couldn’t stay away. In 2010 Andreanna’s now husband Sean Liguore came to work for Gaetano’s . His knowledge of customer service and love for food and wine made him a perfect fit.
It has always been a dream of owner’s Vince, Sean and Andreanna to open their own modern Italian kitchen in the South Bay. It wasn’t until Vince met Chef Fabio Ugoletti in culinary school in Florence that their dream started to become a reality.
When Vince first met Fabio, he knew there was something special about him. Not only did he make incredible Italian food, but his spirit and love for life shined through. Vince and Fabio remained close after culinary school and Fabio came out to consult for Gaetano’s a few times before he decided to move his family out from Italy to open Bettolino Kitchen with us.
We are so excited to join the Riviera Village and can’t wait for you to come and experience Bettolino Kitchen.
Thank you for your interest and continued support.
