Valentine’s Day at Home is Still a Trend

While we love the buzz and excitement that this day of love brings into our restaurant, we equally love the quiet and comfort of celebrating Valentine’s Day at home. So the idea of fighting the crowds on Valentine’s Day has you cringing, then this is the post for you!

One of the things we learned in 2020 was how to be innovative in celebrating special occasions in our homes. We learned how to enjoy simple celebrations with the highlight being the company of those we love. And now that we’re back to spending most of our days out and about in the community again (and starting to feel a little social burnout, to be frank), sometimes it’s nice to return back to the simpler plans.

And the good news is that simpler celebrations like these are coming back into trend. So if that’s what you have in mind this year for Valentine’s Day, allow us to kickstart some ideas for how to make your at-home celebration a special one!

Backyard Picnic

We’re lucky to live in Southern California, where we have picnic weather almost year-round. Transform your backyard into a quick romantic getaway with blankets, throw pillows, and bistro lights. Wilder the Label has a few great tips on making your romantic picnic a successful one. Take the burden of planning the meal off your plate by ordering takeout from Bettolino! A few great picnic-friendly dishes include our focaccia with the works (prosciutto, burrata, and salami), any of our salads, finger-friendly foods like our Crab Arancini, and any long pasta noodle dishes (think: Lady and the Tramp).

Learning to Cook Together

If you frequently dine out or order in, cooking dinner together is a romantic way to try something new. Take an online cooking class that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own kitchen. Or, try one of our very own restaurant recipes at home! Making pesto sauce is something anyone can try with little experience, or if you’re looking for a more advanced recipe you can make our butternut squash ravioli.

Themed Movie Night

This one is for the ones who have had a long week at work and are in need of some serious couch time in sweatpants (we see you!). Turn a regular movie night into a Valentine’s celebration with these recommendations from Movie Night at Home. As they say, pasta pairs with everything, so skip the cooking when pairing your movie with your dinner and order takeout instead.*

Dance Party With the Kids

The only thing that’s better than celebrating Valentine’s Day is celebrating with the whole family. Host a dance at home with the kids or grandkids, inviting them to help you decorate, choose their outfit, and dance the night away. From a dance-off to each person making up the moves and teaching them to one another, you’ll have memories to make together all night long. Here’s a kid-friendly Valentine’s Day playlist if you need some tunes!
